Athletic training encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of emergent, acute or chronic injuries and medical conditions.

 

Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as an allied health care profession.

Our goal is to provide the best sports medicine coverage for all Henry Clay student athletes.

MEET THE HENRY CLAY SPORTS MEDICINE TEAM

PETER GRAY

MA, LAT, ATC

HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER

Peter Gray is a certified and licensed Athletic Trainer with UK Healthcare Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine and is in his fourth year as Head Athletic Trainer at Henry Clay High School. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh with a degree in Athletic Training and Business Administration. He has also completed an athletic training graduate assistantship with UAB Sports Medicine - Children's of Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama with a master's degree in Sports Management.

KATHLEEN ROBERTS, MD

PRIMARY CARE/SPORTS MEDICINE FELLOW

Dr. Katie Roberts is a Sports Medicine Physician at UK Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. She completed medical school at the University of West Virginia and her residency training at the University of Kentucky. She is currently in her sports medicine fellowship at UK training with Dr. Smoot, Dr. Kaiser, or Dr. Hosey and provides sports medicine coverage for UK Athletics, Georgetown College, & Henry Clay Athletics.

KIMBERLY BUCKHOLTS

LAT, ATC, NREMT

GRADUATE ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER

Kimberly Buckholts is a certified and licensed Athletic Trainer as well as a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician. She graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training and Nutrition and is now pursuing her Master's Degree in Athletic Training at the University of Kentucky.  This is Kimberly's first year working for UK Healthcare Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine. As a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer, she provides coverage for Henry Clay High School, Edythe J. Hayes Middle School, and Morton Middle School.

HENRY CLAY STUDENT ATHLETIC TRAINING ASSISTANTS

Makyra and Alexis are senior Henry Clay students who have been a part of the sports medicine team for three years.
